Hope’s Journey has spent a couple of days on the longarm quilting frame and is nearing the finish line, with only the hand stitching left to do on the binding. I plan to sit and relax, in the near future but not right now, and blissfully sew bindings to my hearts content. That’s one of my absolute favourite steps in the entire quilt making process.
I took a photo of the entire quilt, hanging on the clothesline of course, and a close up of the quilting, so you could see the freeform feathers that I quilted on this piece. This is a quilting design that I save for those ‘special’ quilts that have a more antique look, as it is quite labour intensive and has a beautiful texture that reminds me of those old turn of the century quilts. It also has a little bit of a modern feel at the same time because of the random placement of the feathers that lends itself to great movement. I think this quilt definitely warranted the extra effort – I love it!

This quilt was spectacular when it was just a flimsy! With those feathers it has become simply amazing! Great job. xoxo
Oh, Tammy, thank you so much for the great feedback. This quilt has definitely become one of my treasures, with the completion of it marking this year as a very good ‘quilt year’ indeed! This piece has a very special personal feeling attached to it for some reason and gives me the sensation of a ‘milestone’ in my quilting, much like the Civil War sampler quilt we made together back in 2011 😮
